Borated polyethylene board

(Last Updated On: 12/23/2019)
Boron-containing polyethylene board

Borated polyethylene board is a highly effective anti-neutron shielding material with good catalytic activity, low corrosivity to equipment and no environmental pollution. Furthermore, boron-containing polyethylene composites have low density compared with traditional metals and concrete. The attenuation curve is easy to use, low in cost and good in processing performance. Usually, 5% boron-containing polyethylene shielding fast neutrons with a thickness of 10-20CM can achieve your ideal protective effect. Therefore, on this basis, increase the boron content or thickness. The neutron’s integral leakage amount does not change substantially.

Borated polyethylene board product technical indicators are:

  • Amount of boron carbide: 10% by weight
  • Density: ≥1.028g/cm3
  • Density difference: ≤0.01g/cm3
  • Heat distortion temperature (load ρ = 0.46 Mρa): 72 ° C
  • Linear expansion coefficient: 8.933×10-51/°C
  • Heat resistant temperature: 126 ° C (DTA measurement)
  • Heat resistance: ≈24MPa
  • Impact strength (notch): ≈19KJ/m2

Application field and market analysis:

It is used as radiation shielding and absorption material for nuclear power plant spent fuel and nuclear experimental product tank, neutron beam collimator, neutron trap, medical and health.

We, Kiridor company, can produce 5%-40% Boron-containing polyethylene board and dimensions as the outer diameter are ≥φ1.5m and thickness is ≥500mm can be customized according to the drawings.

Produced by boron-containing ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene plate it has good anti-radiation properties, no activation products, secondary γ-ray energy is low; chemical stability, corrosion resistance, non-toxic, odorless.

In addition, the borated polyethylene sheet is also certified by prime vendors of the U.S. government. It is the source for Grade II and Grade III neutron shielding material on nuclear submarines and naval warships. Our process, materials, quality programs, sampling, testing, tracing and packaging all meet or exceed military specifications such as MIL-P23536A and EB2562E .
